Conservation Committee Considers Property

The Jefferson County Conservation Board met on Monday evening, December 1, 2014 in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse.  The Meeting was Called to Order by acting Chairman Tucker. Absent from Roll Call was Board Member Kenley.

A call was made for nomination for the position of Chairman and Tucker was elected by acclamation. David Swann was seated as Vice Chairman by acclamation and Bill Clampitt was seated as Secretary by acclamation.

With a Motion from Swann and 2nd from Clampitt, the July 14, 2014 Minutes were Approved. The Board discussed a proposal to received land, determined to be non developable, from the Industrial Development Board. The property would be a portion of a related project that would tie local history, recreation and outdoor educational opportunities across the County. Clampitt informed the Board that the IDB had requested that the Conservation Board shoulder the costs associated with survey of the property located behind the Jefferson County Health Department, as well as the closing costs. The total acreage in question is around 17 acres and the costs of developing recreation in that area are projected to be low. With a Motion from Clampitt and 2nd from Swann the Board Unanimously Approved recommending the acceptance of the property and requesting funding from the County Commission in the amount of $3,500 for the associated costs. A budget amendment will be presented to the Budget Committee regarding the issue.

By consent, the Board will hold meetings at 6pm before the County Commission Voting Session.
