Some 2014 Memories

As 2014 exits and 2015 begins, it is time to reflect on the memories we have made during this year. Some of us have found love, in the form of a new guy/gal, a new spouse, a new friend or a new child. And some have sadly experienced the loss a spouse, parent or other loved one. Life offers many turns in our journey, and with each turn a new memory pops forth and is forever embedded in our minds.

We will always remember the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as it dominated Facebook feeds while raising $115 million in donations towards research for a cure. Kate and William told us they were expecting royal baby no. 2! Prince George had his first royal tour, and Prince William and Prince Harry in came to Tennessee for a southern wedding. Celebrity wardrobe malfunction suggested that skin must be in and the pixie haircuts reigned supreme with Hollywood set. Jay Leno left NBC’s Tonight Show handing it over to Jimmy Fallon. Jennifer Aniston is now happily engaged while Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie finally got married.

The economy is back and gas prices have fallen. President Obama announced the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Cuba after more than 50 years. Republicans midterm elections in November gave them control of both the House and the Senate. Ebola found its way into the U.S., causing a fatality and national scare. The shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., saw protests and civil unrest. More than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped and most never to be seen again, in a tragic act of terrorism. U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is finally home after being held captive for five years by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Memories of 2014 are filled with every emotion, from giddy to deep sorrow, but let us embrace 2015 with renewed hope for health, happiness, and spiritual growth, both personal and for the world as a whole. Have a safe and happy New Year!
