Happy New Year 2015

It is that time of year and when the ball drops, leaving 2014 a memory, and nearly half of the United States will be making a New Year’s resolution. Ushering out the old year seems as good a time as any to also usher out some old bad habits and look forward to a new beginning. The good news is that around 3/4ths of those that make a resolution will still be towing the line by January 7th. The bad news is that only between 8 and 12 % of those that make resolutions will actually make a real life change.

While personal goals are usually the object of the New Year resolution, statistically, more people want to better themselves by furthering their education or getting a better job than want to lose weight or start exercising, though both weight loss and exercise are in the top five resolutions, according to a recent university study.

To make it into the 8 to 12 % that actually achieve long term success, a recent study by Quirkology suggests making a reasonable resolution. Instead of jumping into college or graduate school, take a class or two to ease into the pace. Make the resolution public to have some accountability and don’t keep choosing the same resolution year after year.

Resolution or not, 2014 is now in the books and it is a brand new year filled with new opportunities. We hope that 2015 brings hope, peace, happiness and prosperity! Happy New Year from the Jefferson County Post!
