Let It Snow Just Once

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! I don’t want much, just one this winter! No ice please… just snow, beautiful white falling snow. Oh, and no power outages, I really like living in modern times. I know when we get a snow in the south, all of our friends and neighbors from further north think we have lost it. We prepare for the slightest snow, as if it is to be the blizzards affecting the Boston area this winter.

When predicted that the white stuff will fall in our area, we quickly run to the store to stock pantries, as if we would be closed in for the remainder of winter. I seriously do not understand why we do this, especially since our roads are cleared very quickly by city and county… thanks guys. And, we rarely have snows that fall consecutively for days or weeks, like colder areas north of us.

My husband rarely went grocery shopping, but let snow fall and he was in the car, making his snow run to get groceries. Go figure… I think boys just like to play. I always loved his call out as he made his way to a white covered car, “If Hannibal can cross the Alps, I can make it to the grocery for my wife and kids”. Yes, I think boys like to play is an appropriate summation of his actions. I admit that I want nothing to do with driving in the white stuff. Just give me a warm fireplace and windows to look out. I only went outside to play at the insistence of my husband and children, and usually regretted my action, as it seems Mom was a favorite target for snow balls (led by Dad, of course). The poor dogs got the worse end of the play, even though they still loved the romp in the snow. The fur on their legs, feet and bellies were encrusted in snowballs, until it was hard for them to walk. And who do you think helped the dogs lose their excess burden? You got it… me. Dad and children just huddled in front of the fireplace warming their own buns.
