Cook Named General Shale SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore standout helped guide ETSU to pair of wins at Upstate Classic

Buccaneer.289.1245.KAfter helping guide ETSU to a pair of wins at last weekend’s Upstate Classic, Buccaneer sophomore third baseman Chris Cook (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named General Shale Student-Athlete of the Week, which was released by Southern Conference on Wednesday.

Cook, a pre-business major with a 3.707 grade-point-average, hit .429 (6-14) with one triple, three runs, one walk, and two RBI over the weekend at the Upstate Classic. The Kingsport, Tenn. native hit safely in all three games, while also posting a pair of multi-hit games for the Blue and Gold.

The Buccaneer infielder went 3 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI in the 10-4 win over Pittsburgh, while following that up with a 2 for 5 effort with one triple and two runs scored in the 9-2 victory at USC Upstate. Cook began the weekend with a 1 for 4 effort and drove in a run in ETSU’s 3-2 setback to UNC Asheville.

Cook is the first ETSU student-athlete to receive the award this year.

The Bucs return to action this weekend when ETSU hosts Butler beginning with a Saturday doubleheader at 1:05 p.m. at Thomas Stadium.
