The Lady Patriots are a team of drama this season; just one night after falling to South Doyle in extra innings, Jefferson County was tied with Sevier County heading into the last inning of play at 4 apiece. However, Jefferson County would not keep it that way much longer, erupting for 12 runs in the top of the 7th inning to pound Sevier County, 16-4.

“It was one of those games where certain things just aren’t going your way, and you have to find a way to fight through it,” Head Coach, Hillary Howard, explained. “I think it makes us better. I think every bit of that experience (In close games) is going to make us better come tournament time.”

Shelby Winstead would lead the Lady Patriots at the plate, missing just a single to complete “the cycle.” For those who don’t know, the cycle happens when a batter hits a single, double, triple, and a home-run in the same contest.

That did not keep Howard from boasting about her senior shortstop after the game: “I’ve never been more confident in a batter.” She added, “I see her come up and I know something is about to happen. She is a player, man – she’s a player.”

Jefferson County returns home on Thursday night to host Knox Central. First pitch is 6 pm.
