Jefferson County High School honored local veterans on Thursday evening with their annual performance of The Night of the Patriots. A long standing favorite event of November, this school year’s show was pushed back several months to allow for renovations to Jefferson County High School. The delay did not dampen the spirit of the show, as a multitude of Jefferson County High School students put their talents to good use honoring those that have served and, in some cases, still serve the county and nation. Veterans and First Responders were paid tribute through intricate song and dance numbers that wowed the audience in the packed gym. Acting as Master of Ceremony for the evening was Keegan Tucker.

A show of the caliber of The Night of the Patriots requires many hours and skills, from both students and faculty. David Seal was the Program Director for this year’s show. He was assisted by many members of the JCHS faculty who spend hours of time outside their regular classroom duties to plan and practice with students. Thursday’s performance marked the last show for long time Artistic Director and Patriot Players Coordinator Billie Yardley. She will be hanging up her choreography hat after this year’s performance. Yardley was presented with flowers from the cast at the morning show, which was attended by students, and will be remembered for her contributions long after the lights went up on this year’s performance as a facilitator of talent in Jefferson County High School students. The Night of the Patriots is the pinnacle of proof that Jefferson County has youth that are ripe with talent. It is also the vehicle that allows one generation to thank those that came before them for their service and sacrifice, which, at the end of the day, is a great life lesson. Be it November or April, it is always an appropriate time to be grateful.
