Winstead Signs With Walters State

“She shows a lot of toughness, a lot of these kids nowadays are a little soft.” Words by Walters State assistant Softball Coach, Mitch Taylor, to describe the main reason they wanted the Jefferson County senior shortstop, Shelby Winstead.

The Senior chose to continue her softball career at the nearby junior college thanks in large part to proximity to home, “I really like that it is so close to home” she added “ I didn’t want to be somewhere too far away.”

While Walters State wants Winstead primarily to fill the void left by a graduating third basemen, he current coach says that’s not all she will bring, “She will give them a tremendous stick” Howard added “She is batting over .500 and she has done that the last couple of years for us.”

At the end of the day her current coach and future coach expect the same out of Winstead and Walters State, “ We expect her to come in and make an immediate impact.”
