Taking Stress Away from T-CAP

Growing YearsT-CAP testing will begin in a week. Test anxiety can be a problem for many students. You can help your child avoid this by following a few suggestions. Remind your child that he/she has been preparing all year to take this massive exam. All will be well… Just relax!

– Talk about the test in a positive way

– Share that your expectation is simply to do the best he/her can

– Remind him/her that this is only one way to determine what has been learned

– Send a water bottle with your child

– Get a good night’s sleep

– Eat breakfast

– Make the morning as stress-free as possible

– Do not be tardy

Remind your child to:

– Take time and check the work

– Read all directions

– Read each passage

– Read every answer

– Focus on one item at a time, not the whole test

– Reread parts of a passage to help get the correct answer

– Use reasoning and eliminate wrong answers

– If you know what the question is asking the correct answer will be clear

– If you are stumped on a question skip it and come back at end of test (mark the number on scrap paper)

– First answers are usually right try not to make changes (erase all marks if change is needed)

– Be careful when recording answers on sheet; CHECK LINE AND NUMBER

– Work as quickly as possible not staying on one question too long
