As Jefferson County students race toward the final day of school, teachers are challenged with finding unique ways to keep them engaged in learning. Battling field trips and spring fever isn’t always easy, but many local educators have proved that they can make education fun during the countdown to summer vacation. In that vein, the fifth grade class at Dandridge Elementary School hosted their own “wax museum” last week, with students portraying the part of figures that one might see at a wax museum. Each student dressed and spoke as a different character, giving their biography from a first person perspective. They also created backdrop posters with information on their character. Other classes of students and a healthy group of visitors toured the “wax museum,” pushing buttons to activate the character’s monologue, and learn about such impacting people as Elvis, Rosa Parks, and Mia Hamm. Even some locally famous individuals were represented, like angler Ott Defoe, making for an interesting afternoon and highlighting the creativity of both Jefferson County students and teachers.
