The Jefferson County Republican Party hosted their annual Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner on May 15, 2015 at Carson Newman University. St ate Senator Mark Green, MD, representing the 22 district, was the Key Note Speaker for the evening. Beyond his outstanding record of military service and founding a highly successful company, Senator Green has the unique distinction of having met and spoken with Saddam Hussein during the time of his capture, having served on the team that precipitated that event. Green spoke of leadership and the need for the party to connect on a personal level with constituents. He also told some anecdotal stories of his conversation with the former leader of Iraq and his own time in that war zone. Senator Green was introduced by Judge Duane Sloan.

Other Speakers for the evening included United States Representatives Phil Roe and Jimmy Duncan. Also in attendance were State Senator Frank Niceley and State Representatives Andrew Farmer and Jeremy Faison. Several County Commissioners and local elected officials, as well as Representative Timothy Hill from District 3, were also in attendance.

Chairwoman Paula Rugel Gibson gave the Welcome and Dr. John J. McGraw offered the Invocation. The Presentation of Colors was given by the Jefferson County High School JROTC and Harry House performed the National Anthem. Major Russell Turner led the Pledge of Allegiance and 1st Vice Chair Barry Fain recognized local, State and National dignitaries. Vickie Forgety presented Claire Crouch with the Barbara McAndrew Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Senator Frank Niceley and Senator Niceley also read a Senate Proclamation for Ray Smelcer, which was presented to his family.
