Finance Director Potts Expects County and School Roll Overs

General Housekeeping was the order of the day for the Jefferson County Budget Committee, as they met for the last time in the fiscal year 2014/2015. Meeting before a Called Meeting of the Jefferson County Commission on Monday, June 29, 2015, in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse, the Budget Committee addressed end of year County and School budget amendments.

With a Motion from Kesterson and 2nd from Solomon, County amendments were approved. Solid Waste amendments were also approved, with a motion and 2nd from Solomon/Musick and Kesterson/Tucker. Highway Department amendment requests were approved with a motion from Solomon/Musick.

The School General Fund amendments were approved with a motion from Musick and 2nd from Solomon. Federal and Food Service amendments were approved with motions from Solomon and Kesterson and 2nds from Musick and Solomon.

Jefferson County Finance Director Potts informed the Committee that funds from both the Schools and County will roll into fund balance, though the amount is still to be determined. He stated that the County roll over should be sufficient to cover the $135,000 that was not accounted for in the current budget and will allow the fund balance to remain sufficient per the current debt service policy.

The Committee stood in recess to allow the possibility of passing a continuing budget resolution, should the County Commission uphold the Mayor’s Veto. Because the Veto was overridden, the Budget Committee adjourned following the close of the County Commission meeting.
