Williams Named Veteran Service Officer

The Jefferson County Commission hired a new Veterans Service Officer on Monday evening. Personnel Committee Chairman Turner brought the Committee’s recommendation of Timothy C. Williams before the full body for approval during the regular voting meeting. The recommendation came following narrowing of the applicant field on Friday and interviews of the Committee’s top three candidates on Monday morning.

Williams is a 22 year veteran of military service and is a retired Army Sargent. He has eight years experience as a Veterans Service Officer in Johnson City and Sevier County. Committee members expressed satisfaction in the fact that Williams is already trained for the job and can hit the ground running. Jefferson County has been without a Veterans Service Officer since last month, when the position was vacated by Matthew Underwood. The County Commission unanimously approved the Personnel Committee’s recommendation and no other candidates were brought forth from the floor. Williams will take over the position in early August.
