As many people are on vacation sightseeing and working on their tans, the Jefferson County High School skill position players have been competing against other area high schools in 7-on-7 competitions: the final one coming this past Thursday against Halls High School (Knoxville,TN).

While JCHS looked sharp in their previous outings, Halls had the upper hand early on offense. “I think what got us today defensively is some technique stuff,” Head Coach Kenny Cobble said afterwards, “Just some of the basic fundamentals.”

Defense was not the only struggling point on Thursday evening. The Patriot 1st team offense had 13 dropped passes, and Cobble says you can’t be successful doing that. “You can’t have 13 drops or accuracy plays and expect to compete very well.”

Overall for the summer passing series, Cobble is pretty pleased with where his team has come from over the past 12 months. “I am excited,” He explained. “If you look at where we were a year ago at this time we had 0 interceptions in any of our 7-on7’s, and this year we have had one in every one of them.” He continued, “Offensively, at this time I think we were completing 30-40% and this year we have been mid 60’s.”

Cobble closed saying, “I like where we are headed,” he added, however, “We just have to keep remembering we haven’t arrived yet and our competition is going up, so we have to keep sharpening the knife!”
