ETSU Women’s Golf Earns National Ranking

Team finishes eighth nationally in GPA

The East Tennessee State University women’s golf team was nationally recognized by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Friday for the Buccaneers’ academic achievement during the 2014-15 season.

ETSU’s team of Vivenne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia), Rachel Pollock (Guelph, Ontario, Canada), Linda Dobele (Ogre, Latvia), Dominika Czudkova (Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic), Allyson Dunn (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Abigail Evans (Gillingham, England) combined for an overall grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.731, which tied for eighth nationally. ETSU was the only team in the Southern Conference to be recognized for this award.

“This honor is a testament to the efforts our ladies put forth in the classroom, while competing every day on the golf course,” said head coach Stefanie Shelton. “We strive to excel in everything we do, and I’m proud the ladies earned this recognition as it is a great achievement.”

The award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf programs with the highest collective average team GPAs based on the team’s rosters for the 2014-15 season.

ETSU’s six golfers (mentioned above) were also honored last month by being named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll as the group achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
