Depending on which part of the one quarter jamboree you were watching, you may have mixed feelings about the 2015 Patriots Football team.

The first part of the quarter was all Jefferson County, and rightfully so. The 1st Team offense played one series and looked poise to be a “handful” for any team they face this season, including Maryville. Starting quarterback Austin Jenkins was in mid-season form, going 5 for 6 for 55 yards during the drive.

The 1st team defense showed signs of improvement from last season’s, swarming and making tackles in the backfield. They moved more fluidly as a unit and even had a sack in their short time on the field, made by Jacob Varney.

The latter part of the quarter was filled mostly by 2nd string players that allowed a few big plays by the Cocke County defense, including 2 fumbles that resulted in Fighting Cock Touchdowns. Cocke County won the quarter 21-7.

Freshman Defeat Cocke Co 7-0

The Jefferson County Freshman Football team was also in action on Friday night and defeated Cocke County, 7-0 on a beautiful 20-yard touchdown pass from Blake Miranda to Jamal Spradling.

JCHS, SMITH, and HILL Honored As well

Jefferson County was well represented during the awards section of the night. JCHS Athletic Director, and President of the IMAC would officially award Jefferson County the Larry Williams All-Sports trophy: an announcement was made back in May of 2015.

Coach Jim Smith was also honored for his decades of work in the Inter Mountain Athletic Conference. Smith spent 27 years on the JCHS Football Staff, as well as 26 years coaching track and field at JCHS

The late Coach John Hill was also recognized for his numerous years put in for the game of basketball, with the majority of his time being spent in the Jefferson County School System.
