The bright midway lights have gone dim for another year, as the Jefferson County Fair ended its 2015 run this weekend. Fair officials deemed 2015 a rebuilding year and fair week certainly was challenged by Mother Nature, as the rains poured down. However, in the end, nothing (not even knee deep water) can dampen the glitter of the pageants, the thrill of the rides, the skill and work of the exhibits or the roar of the shows. Jefferson Countians and visitors poured into the fair grounds looking for the excitement that can only be found at the fair and everyone knows that rain or shine, the midway is only lit for a few short days in August.

The dust has largely settled and those cruising past the fair ground looking for signs of neon or the smell of funnel cakes will be disappointed – until next year. Just about the time that the summer heat seems too much to endure and the school bells begin to ring, something exciting will come to town. The midway will glow and the animals will be center stage; a new group of glittery pageant participants will compete for the coveted crown and one lovely, young lady will be crowed Fairest of the Fair. The Derby will make hearts pound and the funnel cakes will fry when the Jefferson County Fair 2016 comes to town. After all, nothing says farewell to summer and hello to fall, quite like a trip to the fair.
