Though the weather was not a bonny as it could have been, that didn’t dampen the excitement of the annual Scots-Irish Festival. For the ninth year, the Historic Town Square in Dandridge was filled with clansmen, kin and spectators looking to celebrate the Scots-Irish heritage that is so prevalent in the area. Since 1783, the Scots-Irish influence has been a part of the thread of the community and the annual festival is one way of keeping that heritage alive and thriving in the hills of East Tennessee. Kilts and cabbage were the order of the day, as Loch Douglas lent its special beauty to the haunting sounds of bagpipes. From the dog parade to the demonstrations, vendors, performances and fare, the Scots-Irish theme rang as clear as the pipes and drums that marked the opening ceremony, bring a taste of what was to the wee Town of Dandridge.
