William Blount 1st year Head Coach, Phillip Shadowens , told reporters earlier this week that he expected Thursday night’s game against Jefferson County to be a fun night for the Governors. It was the Patriots, however, that presumably had the most fun on this night.

Tied 20-20 at the half, Jefferson County outscored William Blount 28-6 in the second half on its way to a huge victory for this Patriot squad. “It’s critical,” Cobble said of the win. “Getting that first region win, getting our guys back in the win column after 3 tough weeks against really good football teams and knowing we got another tough stretch coming up. Just to get these guys back in the win column was exciting.”

When the game first started though, it was tough to foresee a Patriot victory. The Governors elected to receive the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a drive that took nearly 8:30 minutes of the 1st quarter. Shortly thereafter, only 40 seconds into the second quarter, William Blount would take a 14-0 lead. This time, it would be an Austin Myrick pass complete to Isaiah Hannah for an 80-yard Governor touchdown. That is when the Jefferson County offense had had enough, scoring on their last 3 possessions of the first half to keep the Patriots in the game.

62 seconds in to the 2nd half, Jefferson County found its first lead of the game, when Austin Jenkins found his favorite target, Noah Carter, for a 28-yard score to make it 27-20 JCHS. After a bad snap on a fake punt attempt the Patriot offense took over at the WB 30-yard line. One play later, Jenkins found a wide open Dalton Morgan on a wheel route for a 30-yard JCHS touchdown. “They did a great job throughout the game,” Cobble said of his offense. “They kept us in it in the first half, when defensively we weren’t playing well. Coach Branton does a good job and our whole offensive staff does.”

Austin Jenkins would lead the offense on this rainy night, going 11-15 through the air with 222 yards and 6 total touchdowns (1 rushing). Gorel Soumare would have 4 of those catches for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Noah Carter had 3 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Michael Ealy would lead the rushing game with 6 carries for 70 yards, while Treyson Mills had 8 carries for 60 yards. Senior Dalton Morgan had a big game as well, with 83 total yards and a touchdown.

Jefferson County returns home Friday night to face Hardin Valley at 7:30.
