Vietnam Battle of la Drang Valley survivor to speak at Hill’s Union United Methodist Church, November 15, 2015

A special service for all Veterans is scheduled at Hill’s Union United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 15, 2015. Freddie J. Owens, a survivor of the Battle of la Drang Valley, will be the guest speaker. We encourage all veterans and their families to attend the 10:45am service at 2383 Hill’s Chapel Road, Dandridge.

Freddie served in Vietnam as a squad leader with the 1st Calvary Division (Air-Assault) and is a survivor of the November, 1965  la Orang Valley battle which was later made into the movie “We Were Soldiers”   from the book We Were Soldiers Once…And Young by Lieutenant General Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway. He was wounded twice in combat action and his military decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Air-Assault Badge with Star Cluster, Bronze Star with Valor Device, Purple Heart with Cluster, Air Medal with Combat Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) Gallantry Cross and Army Commendation Medal.

The service will be followed by a meal in the church fellowship hall. We look forward to sharing this special service with you.
