Thank You From White Pine School

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

The staff and students of White Pine School would like to express our extreme gratitude to the many individuals and groups who have helped us through the loss of one of our students. We have received numerous cards and other correspondence, as well as countless calls and kind words, conveying the thoughts and prayers for our school, community, and especially Makalya’s family during this difficult time. These thoughts were able to carry us through one of the most difficult events a school should ever need to face.

We also would like to commend the many individuals who responded to our immediate need of dealing with the emotions of our students and staff. The Jefferson County Crisis Response Team along with many counselors both in the school system and the community at large were instrumental in helping our staff and students cope with their feelings and allowing our school environment to maintain a sense of stability through this terrible time.

A hearty thank you to the organizations who provided for our physical needs as well. Many groups provided us snacks and lunches during this time and their thoughtfulness means more than we can ever express. The response we experienced from these groups is the true meaning of southern hospitality and loving your neighbor.

Once again we feel we could never fully express the emotional rollercoaster our school has experienced the past few weeks. It is truly the kindness of our community that has helped our school continue to function and address both the academic and emotional needs of our students. Thank you for your kind response and continue to keep us in your thoughts as we continue the school year.
