Apple Fritters

recipe-dessertWith fall in full bloom in Tennessee, I am craving apples. Apple fritters are quite easy to make and fit my craving perfectly. Use your favorite variety of apple, fry to a golden brown and enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

¼ cup white sugar

1 t baking powder

½ t cinnamon

¾ t salt

⅛ t nutmeg

⅔ cup milk

1 T butter, melted

1 egg

1 t vanilla

1 large apple, peeled, cored and diced

Oil, for frying

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Apple butter, for dipping (optional)

Directions:

Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a bowl until combined.

In a separate bowl, mix together milk, butter, egg and vanilla.

Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until combined. Gently fold in apples.

Heat 2 – 3 inches of oil in a heavy bottomed pot over medium to medium-high heat. Drop batter by the teaspoon into hot oil. Fry about 2 minutes until deep golden brown, flipping over halfway through, if necessary. Watch them carefully so they don’t burn.

Remove fritters to paper towel lined plate to drain. If desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving or serve with apple butter for dipping.
