The University of Tennessee Lady Vols hosted the Carson Newman Lady Eagles in an exhibition game Monday, when C-N traveled to Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.

The Lady Eagles showed some true promise for the season pulling within 7 points in the second quarter. The Lady Volunteers for the first three quarters of the game were able to pull away by no more than 16. This was corrected in the fourth quarter. All the while the Lady Eagles maintained good poise against this sizable team.

Center Mercedes Russell led the Lady Vols in scoring with 23 points for the total game, and Tatum Burstrom Led for the Eagles with 15. Russell had scored 11 of these before halftime. Despite having a physically shorter team, with at least eight players 5’7″ or shorter, The Carson Newman Lady Eagles held their own. The Lady Vols would widen the gap in the fourth period making the end score 101-59.

The Carson Newman Lady Eagles will be gearing up to face USC Aiken on Friday, and Lander on Saturday as part of the SAC Peach Belt Challenge. The Tennessee Lady Volunteers are opening up regular season play at Thompson-Boling Arena against Central Arkansas on Sunday, November 15. Tip-Off is set for 2 pm. ET and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network + and WatchESPN.
