Public Invited to Attend Hopewell Presbyterian Church’s 230 Year Celebration, Dec. 6, 2015

Nativities from around the world to be displayed

Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dandridge will celebrate their 230th anniversary with a reception at the church on Sunday, December 6th.  The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Over 75 beautiful Nativity sets from around the world will be on display, along with the 230 unique pillowcase dresses which were made for an orphanage in Africa.  The women of the church (the old Sew ‘n Sews) have been meeting on Thursdays for several months to lovingly make the dresses. Each dress is different – it is amazing to see what can be done with a just pillowcase!

The ladies are now going to make shorts and shirts for the little boys too.  Many people have donated material and they are picking out some that would be appropriate for boys.
Additionally, the public is invited to tour the church and enjoy all the Christmas beautiful decorations.

Hopewell was founded in 1785 and is the oldest church in Jefferson County and second oldest in the State of Tennessee.   In 1843, under the progressive leadership of Rev. John McCampbell, the log house in the center of town became too small and was replaced by a large frame building just east of the present brick building.  It was destroyed by fire in 1868 and the present colonial style building was erected in 1869-1872.  The building is practically unchanged today except for necessary repairs.

The Hopewell Presbyterian Church is located at 812 Hopewell Street in Dandridge.  There is also a Face Book page for the church.
