March to the historic Jefferson County Courthouse begins at 11 a.m.

Commemoration begins shortly thereafter.

Citizens for Justice, Equality and Fairness, a multi-cultural grassroots organization working for racial justice in Jefferson County, is sponsoring its annual Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration on Monday, January 18 in Dandridge. Marchers will gather at 10:30 a.m. at the dike, and will proceed at 11 a.m. to the historic Jefferson County Courthouse, where the program will begin shortly thereafter.

This year’s theme is “Standing for Justice.” Young people from Jefferson County schools, churches, and from Carson-Newman College will participate in the program celebrating Dr. King’s life.

To reach the dike in Dandridge, take I-40 Exit 417, and follow Highway 92S to Dandridge. Turn right at the traffic light on Gay St., then left at the corner of Gay and Main. The dike is on the right, past the Dandridge Town Hall. Follow the road to the top of the dike.
