The Jefferson County Patriots had a successful sweep against the Cocke County Fighting Cocks Friday night.  Dumplin Valley was buzzing with excitement as both the Girls and Boys basketball teams hosted Cocke County.

The first quarter of the girls’ game was somewhat of a struggle for the Lady Patriots, with Cocke county pulling ahead for a brief time.  After 2 shots from three point range from Jefferson County’s Tori Griffin, the momentum started leaning in the Lady Patriots’ favor.  Second quarter play turned out to be a struggle for both teams, with Ryleigh Fritz sinking only 1 three, and and the only FG for Cocke County coming from Hayley Miller.  First half action ended with Jefferson County Lady Patriots only up by 4.

Second half play found Jefferson County coming out of the gate at full throttle.  Several successful drives had the Lady Patriots outscoring Cocke County 13-7 in the third quarter.  The Lady Fighting Cocks imploded on themselves in the fourth quarter, allowing Jefferson County to score 19 points to their 7.  The final score was 49-27.

The Lady Patriots had three players scoring in the double digits for the night, Tori Griffin with 15, Ryleigh Fritz with 14, and Makaila Woolard with 11.

The Jefferson County boys also had an explosive night against Cocke County.  Quickly pulling ahead in the first quarter, the Jefferson County Patriots just kept adding to the score throughout the night. By the end of the half, the Jefferson County Patriots were up 33-16.  Second half play, just as explosive as the first, found Cocke County scrambling to patch up their defense. The Patriots outscored Cocke County 32-16 in the second half alone.  Early in the fourth quarter, Cocke county rallied the troops, scoring the most points that they had during the whole game, but it was too little too late.  By the end of the fourth quarter, the Fighting Cocks had lost all signs of having any fight left, making the final score 65-41.

Danny Bates was on fire from three-point range, and Cameron Gregg took advantage of the holes in Cocke County’s defense from with in the field.  Collectively they would have over 30 points alone, along with another 11 points from Nathan Seal.
