DOE Praises Highway Department For Great Job During Bad Weather

I drove many of the county roads that were covered in snow and ice and found them to be impassable when the storm first hit. This county has 998 county roads (over 700 miles) that have to be treated when we have bad weather and it takes time to cover all these roads and miles. Not all of these roads can be addressed at the beginning. Also removing ice on roads is a lot more involved than just removing surface snow. All of our road crews do an amazing job when snow and ice hit our area. Not only are these employees out there working all hours of the day and night, but they are also risking their health and lives on snow and ice trying to get the roads in such a condition that our citizens can go to the store, get their mail delivered, go to school, etc..

During the recent winter storm that we had this week, the Jefferson County Road Department did a wonderful job getting our county roads clear so that we could have school on Thursday. Everywhere that I drove in the county, I saw them out working and clearing the roads. Charles Tipton and his staff really came through for Jefferson County not only for the schools, but for all our citizens. I want to make sure that Jefferson County citizens know that the Jefferson County Schools Transportation Department acknowledges the dedication and hard work of ALL of our Road Departments in Jefferson County in keeping our roads and streets safe for everyone. Thank you all!
