The Jefferson County High School girls were able to start off the State Region 1 Tournament  on their home court Friday Night.  The Tennessee High School Vikings traveled down from the Bristol areal to go head-to-head with the Lady Patriots.

Action for the evening started off with Jefferson County pulling ahead to take an early lead.  Ryleigh Fritz and Tori Griffin was on fire from inside the paint, with several powerful layups that shook the Tennessee High defense.  At first, the Vikings shooting game was not what was expected, but late in the second quarter they found their footing.  The Lady Patriots still had an answer for every point scored, and kept the score tight. The first half of play ended with JCHS on top by 6, 32-26.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, the Vikings offense came out fired up.  Tennessee High went on a 6-0 run against the Lady Patriots, and tied up the game.  The Tennessee High defense limited Jefferson County to only 6 points during the third, and pulled ahead to end the quarter 39-38.  The Lady Patriots found some new fire late in the fourth, and took the lead back briefly; Tennessee High would draw several fouls off JCHS, though, in the final minutes of the game. The Lady patriots would commit 11 fouls compared to the Viking’s 4, giving the Vikings 4 different opportunities from the line. The Jefferson County Lady Patriots would only fall by 6, with a final score of 56-50.

The ladies of the night were Tori Griffin with 15, Ryleigh Fritz with 14, and a season best performance from Abby Clabough, who had 10 for the night.

Congratulations to the Jefferson County Lady Patriots and Coach Sinard for a great season, and for making all of us at the Jefferson County Post PATRIOT PROUD.
