After more than a decade of debate, dust and compromise, portable classrooms are on their way out of Jefferson County High School. The renovation project, which took more than two years to complete, gave a much needed face lift to Jefferson County’s flagship school and brought the bonus of a new auditorium, a much coveted addition to the school proper. There were some noticeable bumps along the way, with perhaps the most notable being the collapse of the roof over Building 8. But that was then, before the transformation truly began.

And now, the end of the road in in sight. With the removal of the portables that formerly housed classrooms, the final touches of paving and parking lot repair can be completed. Two portables will still be on site for a little while longer, until they are claimed by the 4ht District Drug Recovery Services and the Strawberry Plains Senior Center. But, the leased units have been returned to the leasing company. Currently, the County is taking bids on the removal of the donated units and it looks like April will bring the end to portable classrooms at Jefferson County High School. A new chapter has begun in the history of Jefferson County High School with the renovation of the school that sits in the heart of the County and of every graduate that has walker her halls, full of Patriot Pride. Farewell, Portables! It is safe to say that you will not be missed.
