Saturday Night Riot At Mountain View Has Citizens Concerned

Local Police converged on Mountain View Youth Development Facility in Dandridge to regain control of a rioting student inmate population. According to information provided by Dandridge Police Chief, Carson Williams, a call came in for assistance at Mountain View around 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Chief Williams stated that the information indicated that student inmates in the facility were armed with make-shift weapons, radios and were uncontrolled. The Dandridge Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee State Highway Patrol, and local municipality police departments responded to the call. Williams stated that officers entered the building and quickly secured the facility. Student inmates were handcuffed and placed in their quarters before being moved to a central location for containment. Chief Williams said, while he did not personally see any weapons, there were small fires set and property damage. One officer did receive a cut but it is unclear how the injury occurred. The Dandridge Police Chief emphasized that no inmates escaped during the riot and at no time was there any threat to the general public. The situation was considered under control within two hours. Williams stated that the events leading up to the riot are still unclear, but the facility is short handed.
