Two of Jefferson County High School Patriot Football’s star players signed with colleges Wednesday afternoon.

Record breaking senior quarterback Austin Jenkins signed with Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky.  In his two seasons with the Patriots, Jenkins has made an impact both on and off the field.  “We were really blessed to have a chance to have him here at our school. He came in a couple games into his junior year and made an immediate impact, not only on the football team, but also on the student body,” Coach Cobble said about Jenkins on Wednesday. “Such a great student, such a great kid, and it couldn’t have happened to a better person.  There’s so many things that he does, and he does well.”

Jenkins’ leadership was not only seen for the football team, but also across the whole athletic department at Jefferson County High School.  “The concern for me was, when I came in, working at everybody’s group. I noticed that the sports here didn’t interact a lot.  So I just kind of took it on myself, being a social butterfly.  I like to talk and make it fly, so I tried to get involved as much as I can.  That was a big thing for me, was trying to be a leader, in the classroom, at school, and on the field.”

Also a record breaker, Noah Carter signed with Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia. In his four seasons with the Patriots, Carter has proven himself in many positions, including quarterback and wide receiver.  A leader on and off the field, Carter was also a key player for Patriots Basketball and the track and field team.

“He’s just been a great athlete here, and I couldn’t be more happy for him,” Coach Cobble said about Carter. “I couldn’t be happier for him. He’s just worked his tail off.  To see him get a shot at the next level definitely makes you proud.”  When asked about Carter’s move from quarterback to wide receiver last season Cobble said, “He’s a natural athlete, and he’s very unselfish, and was willing to make the move.  To be honest with you, it was a great move.  It allowed us to get him the ball a bunch of different ways… He’s been all over the place, and is very capable at all those positions.”

“I tried to think of the positives and the negatives, and I picked Berry because, for one, it’s a little bit closer, and I figured academics would be a little bit better there.  With them having a new program and winning games, I wanted to be a part of their tradition that they’re going to build,”  Carter said of choosing Berry. “When I went down there I loved it.”

“It’s a plus when you have a player that can play multiple positions. I really like it.  It’s fun getting out there and doing different things every now and then,” Carter said.  “I enjoyed my time here with all the athletics.  I really loved it here.”
