Senior night for the Jefferson County Patriots was successful for Coach Reese’s squad Monday Night. Bats were very quiet, as the pitching for the night was exceptional. South Doyle’s Jones threw a .523, and only allowed two runs in for the night, but that was one too many. The Patriots’ Brandon Saylor pitched a solid .770, and out of 87 pitches had 20 fast pitch strikes.

The Patriots scored early at the bottom of the second. Jacob Rogers was brought in by a Tyler Shaver line drive out toward the short stop. After a top of the third trip to the plate from South Doyle’s Vest, powered by a grounder tapped by Storm, neither team found their way home for the next four innings.

That  stasis lasted until the bottom of the seventh. The Jefferson County Patriots had one last opportunity to seal the deal without going into extra innings. Dalton Morgan popped one up towards second base, and Jacob Rogers took a stroll, thanks to some erratic pitching by a worn South Doyle pitcher. After a sacrificial at bat by John Hensley, both Morgan and Rogers advanced bases. Suddenly, the tired pitcher threw a wild pitch and the catcher lost control; Morgan took a sneaky move over home base, winning the final home conference game for the Patriots.

Thanks to solid pitching from both teams, there were only eight hits off a combined total of 173 pitches. Both teams got one error each for the evening, but overall this was the epic battle of the pitchers.

The seniors were also honored for their overall success Monday evening. Congratulations to this year’s senior varsity members: Nic Bennett, Ryan Buchanan, Dylan Frazier, John Hensley, Max Mason, and Dalton Morgan.
