Tennessee Highway Safety Office Reminds Motorists to Look Twice During Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will join AAA – The Auto Club Group and the Tennessee Motorcycle Rider Education Program to announce May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The event will take place in conjunction with the Music City Police Motorcycle Skills and Training Competition on Wednesday, May 4th at 1:30 p.m. at Opry Mills.

Preliminary data reveals that in 2015, Tennessee experienced an increase in motorcycle fatalities. There was also an increase in the number of those killed who were not wearing a helmet. There were over 2,800 crashes involving a motorcycle last year.

On-site at the press event will be Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s new interactive motorcycle exhibit. This traveling exhibit allows the public to have their photo taken on a motorcycle with a scenic road backdrop. This allows each person to put themselves in the shoes of a motorcyclist and better understand the vulnerability of these road users.
