Tennessee State Representative Jeremy Faison visited Jefferson County High School on Tuesday to speak with students about the importance of government. Representative Faison was invited to speak to students in the second year HVAC and Construction classes by JCHS teacher David Seal. A Jefferson County Commissioner, Seal encourages awareness of local, state, and national government in his students. Representative Faison shares Seal’s commitment to educating young people on the issues of government and personal awareness. In his lesson he stressed the vital presence of self within the cycle of government and how active responsibility was crucial for necessary change. Faison continued by explaining to students that self-involvement would lead to a more frequent consideration of the people’s voice in political prospects.

The lesson highlighted the importance of the power of communication between the people and their elected representatives. This idea especially relevant to Representative Faison as, he stated, his job is reliant on listening to the people of his district and turning those concerns into legislation that brings change. Through this experience, students were more apt to understand the power of the government working progressively for the lives of people within its respective communities. Faison represents the eleventh district of Tennessee.
