The Credit Union will also break ground on a south location in the afternoon

Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union is hosting a grand opening celebration for the new Morristown West branch on Friday, May   20.

The celebration will take place from 9 a.m.5 p.m, with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. The opening, to be held at 4310 Winkler Ave., will feature refreshments and a drawing for prizes. Visitors that open new accounts with the Credit Union now through June 15 will receive a $5 initial deposit. After outgrowing the branch at 3955

W. Andrew Johnson Highway, the Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union opened the new, larger branch to better serve its members.

Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union wanted to emphasize their connection to the community when designing the building. They collaborated with local historians to select more than 20 historic images of Morristown to display in the building. Visitors to the Credit Union have the opportunity to explore Morristown’s unique history through these images, featured on canvas and a wall mural in the vestibule.

For Glenn Siler, president and CEO of Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union, the images are a tribute to Morristown’s history and its residents.

“As a nonprofit, it is important for the Credit Union to recognize the history of the community we’ve served since 1934,” Siler said. “The wall mural represents the historical significance of how Morristown banked on us then and continues to bank on us today.”

According to Marketing Director Kristina Howard, the history of Morristown is so important to the Credit Union because they are locally owned and operated.

“When members use us for their finances, the money they deposit stays here in East Tennessee and helps other people,” Howard said. “This means that members receive lower interests rates and greater returns on investment.“

All images are from Bill Henderson and Jim Claborn’s book, “Hamblen County, TN: A Pictorial History.” Henderson and Calborn are historians from the area who have captured more than 4,000 images of Morristown’s history.

Gwyn Owens, manager of the Morristown West branch, said they chose images that best represented the different time periods from Morristown’s history.

“We wanted to display unique aspects of our history,” Owens said. “So we selected images that showcased Morristown’s diversity, historical architecture, local businesses and important community figures.”

Later that day, Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union will break ground on a new Morristown South location to open later this year. The groundbreaking will be at 3 p.m. at 5331 Winners Circle Way.
