Alzheimer’s Tennessee

Alzheimer’s Tennessee celebrates ‘unsung’ heroes who go above and beyond when caring for individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.  Facilities and home health agencies across East Tennessee nominate a staff member who has provided outstanding care to those with cognitive impairment. Alzheimer’s Tennessee, honored 106 of these caregivers at the 18th Annual Caring Hearts ceremony held last month in Knoxville. Three of those honored provide care in Jefferson County. These include Olga Calfee, Jefferson County Nursing Home, Alicia Eslinger, Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services of Jefferson County and Marilyn Mayes, Chandler House Five Star Senior Living in Jefferson City.

“It takes special people to care for our loved ones who are facing memory loss,” Linda Johnson, Director of Programs for Alzheimer’s Tennessee, said. “We appreciate everything these caregivers do on a personal and professional level each day. Our ‘Caring Hearts’ demonstrate the dedication it takes to help individuals and their families throughout the journey with Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Personal Care Assistants, and Residential Assistants provide the most basic care for those facing dementia at home and in area facilities.  Alzheimer’s Tennessee’s goal is to ensure that every dedicated CNA, PCA, and RA receives the praise and thanks, he or she so richly deserves.

In the words of those who nominated the individuals, these “committed, compassionate and generous” caregivers show “a kind spirit and a big heart” toward each person and family for whom they care.
