Fun Activities for Independence Day Weekend

Looking for some food, fun, and fireworks this Fourth of July? There are several events happening in town and all over our surrounding communities to ensure fun for the entire family. There is an event to meet everyone’s interest and time commitments depending on how busy you want to be during the holiday.

Staying around town? On July 3rd there are two events happening in the heart of downtown. First is the annual Shake n’ the Lake at the Point Resort and Marina, scheduled from 2-6 p.m. at the Point with a variety of entertainment for the family. Shake n’ the Lake will end with fireworks at 10:00 p.m. from the Resort and Marina. The evening will also feature Red, White and Bluegrass running from 6-9 p.m., featuring live music from local Pop Seals and Open Range, who will take the stage from behind town hall. The event is free to everyone and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Jefferson City will celebrate Independence Day with a parade beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will take place at the corner of Russell and Main Street in Old Downton Jefferson City along the railroad tracks. On July 2nd Morristown will host Party in the Park, located at Cherokee Park at 3 p.m. The family focused event will feature live music, food, and fireworks at sundown.

Want to celebrate further out from town? Knoxville will hold its Festival on the Fourth on July 4th at World’s Fair Park. The celebration will run from 4:00-10:00 p.m. and will feature a wide range of family entertainment, activities, and treats. Organizers promise good food, music, and fun with fireworks concluding the night. Those wanting to go to the festival are reminded that no pets, alcohol, or personal tents are allowed at the event.

Pigeon Forge will host its Patriot Festival on July 4th to celebrate abundant patriotism for local heroes in the community. The event will be held at Patriot Park beginning at noon, and will end with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Food vendors and free kids’ activities will begin at noon and continue throughout the day. Entertainment highlights for the event include Crusin’ Memories, Veterans Tribute, Pigeon Forge Community Chorus, and a performance by 2015 The Voice Finalist Emily Ann Roberts. People wishing to attend the event are reminded that lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, but not umbrellas.
