Vince Gable fulfilled the qualifications for candidacy in the August 4th, 2016 election for the position of Constable in Jefferson County District 8.

He is a resident in the Holly Oaks subdivision where he lives with his wife Virginia and their daughter Brooke.  They also have a son, Josh, who lives in Belleville, IL with his wife and three children.  Vince is a member of French Broad Baptist Church and the Jefferson County Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Vince is a US Marine Corps veteran where he served as a Scout/Sniper in Viet Nam for over 3 years.   After more than 8 years active service and because of being wounded in combat several times, he transferred to reserve status.  He became a deputy sheriff in Dade County, Fla. where he worked in patrol and detective positions, rising to command the Organized Crime Bureau Narcotic Smuggling Division.  During this time he continued in government service and eventually retired from both.

His professional training includes the National Intelligence Academy, Dade County Police Academy, Drug Enforcement Administration basic and advanced schools, numerous police courses and specialized training courses. He trained as a pilot and flew numerous missions.  He holds many pilot certifications and is an instructor in multi engine, instrument, and sea plane categories.

From entering the Marine Corps with an 11th grade high school education, he went on to complete undergraduate studies earning a BS degree in police science.  He also has a Master of Public Administration from Appalachian State University and JD (law) degree from the University of Miami.

Prior to his retirement from the Sheriff’s Department he served as a special prosecutor in the State Attorney’s Office Narcotics Division and as a police legal advisor.  He also taught at the Dade County Law Enforcement center.

After retirement he moved to his home in Boone, NC, where he practiced criminal law and served as an interim prosecutor.  He also served as a volunteer fireman attaining the rank of Deputy Chief and holds instructor certifications in both police and fire subjects.  He attended the National Fire Academy in Emitsburg, Maryland where he specialized in fire command and fire safety. He was elected to the Watauga County Board of Commissioners where his responsibility was all aspects of county public safety.

After moving to Jefferson County he joined the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as a certified reserve deputy with full police powers.  For several years he has served in that capacity in the road patrol division, working on average one day a week, mainly patrolling in the area that is District 8.  He volunteers this service without pay.

His professional memberships include the admittance to the State Bars of several states, Federal Appellate Districts, and the US Supreme Court. He is a long time member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and serves on the legal officers section.  He also belongs to several veterans and law enforcement organizations.

Vince is highly qualified and motivated to serve as Constable.  He volunteers his service as his way of giving back and maintains his training and certifications in order to competently fulfill these duties.  He enjoys an unblemished record of Public Service and would serve the citizens of Jefferson County with the highest of standards.
