John Grisham’s: Skipping Christmas

I love Christmastime like I love a good book. I look forward to it all year and enjoy sharing the things that I like with my family and friends. Stockings are big in my family and it is always interesting to see what one holds. Usually, a quirky read can be found among the candy, gadgets, and other offerings. For those that are looking for something interesting for an adult stocking, may I suggest a Christmas book? A particular favorite in my family is John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas. The movie Christmas with the Kranks is based on the book, though the book is slightly more serious than the movie version. I would suggest Skipping Christmas as a stocking stuffer for any adult, though the concepts in the book may be a little beyond the teen market. If you are looking for a funny addition to stuff an adult or teen stocking, try Scared of Santa: Scenes of Terror in Toyland by Denise Joyce and Nancy Watkins. This book includes some very humorous pictures of kids and their “Santa” experience. Of course, most children love picture books and we all have those that we love to read again and again. For me, you can’t beat the traditional ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore. Originally a poem, it has been brilliantly illustrated over the years and should be a part of every child’s library. Whatever the choice, a wonderful book is a great surprise on Christmas morning and has the added bonus of giving hours of enjoyment throughout the year. To quote a masterpiece, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
