The Jefferson Middle School Elks kicked off regular season play in aggressive style Tuesday night when they hosted the East Ridge Middle Bears.

First to get on the board early in the first quarter, the Elks quickly set the tone for the rest of the game. With a touchdown and two-point conversion Jefferson Middle was up 8-0. The Bears answered with a touchdown of their own, but failed to make the extra points, ending the first quarter with a score of 8-6.

The second quarter of play ended up being decidedly one-sided. The Elks’ offence tore a hole through the Bears’ defense with the running game. Despite the best efforts of East Ridge, the Elks defense also proved to be a brick wall. The first half of play ended with the Jefferson Middle Elks in the lead 24-6.

The second half started out as more bad news for the Bears. The Elks put 6 more on the board midway though the third quarter and refused to allow the Bears to answer. Late in the fourth, the Bears made it to the endzone, but the touchdown was called back due to an illegal block in the back by the East Ridge offense. The Elks’ defense refused to let the Bears back in that direction, and showed them who was in charge of the game by scoring once again late in the fourth, bringing the final score to 40-6. After the commanding win, Jefferson Middle is now gearing up to host Lincoln, with a kickoff time of 6:00 p.m. in Jefferson City.
