Saturday morning, citizens of Jefferson County gathered at Jefferson County Courthouse to support area law enforcement.  The “Back the Blue” event, hosted by the Jefferson County Republican Party, welcomed area first responders and county leaders.  Also present for the morning was State Representative Jeremy Faison, State Senator Frank Nicely, and Congressman Jimmy Duncan, who all three addressed the attendees about the importance of supporting the community’s law enforcement.

Jeremy Faison, the first to address the group, spoke of a time he was able to do a ride along with an officer as a young boy.  This was a defining moment in Faison’s life; the way that officer could evaluate the situations made an impression on his young life.  “Unfortunately, we have some crazy people in this world, and you have to make decisions that impact lives forever.  And I want you to know that I’m one of the people who are deeply thankful for what you do, for putting your life on the line, and all that you do to make sure my family can sleep at night.”

Frank Nicely also addressed the crowd, speaking on the importance of supporting area law enforcement, and his appreciation for what they do. Congressman Jimmy Duncan was the keynote speaker for the morning, expressing his appreciation to be able to serve in one of the “most patriotic districts in the country.” Duncan shared his love and support for the Law Enforcement Community, gaining even greater respect for them during his tenure as a lawyer and judge.  He also touched on the importance of passing that love and respect to future generations.

“I’ve always appreciated our Law Enforcement people, and have always supported them strongly in the congress with money and everything else.  I’ve worked very closely with them as a lawyer, and then a judge.  I have great respect for what they do, and I think we ought to teach our children to have respect, because like I said in my talk, some of our bigger cities are going to become unlivable if we don’t support our law enforcement.”
