The Turkey Came Early

editorial-logo3Is anyone else over the Presidential Election? Personally, I have had about as much of the candidates as I can stomach. And, that is unfortunate since we will be looking at one of them for at least the next four years. This week, I have spent some time pondering on just what it is about our candidates that makes me more and more queasy and I have to wonder if it is the candidates themselves or the candidates as presented in the media that are so fundamentally off putting. As a professed and confessed news junkie, maybe I am just over-saturated with this election. After all, it is all that the we see on television or hear on radio and social media. Every meme, every joke, every comedy skit is about the election. Every news break has some shadow of the election. Even a monster hurricane cannot out blow the coverage of this election.

If you can speak, you are a pundit. If you do not choke on your own spittle then you are qualified to offer your “expert” opinion. Please. No more. No more commentary that is more advertising and promotion than educational dialogue. No more back door representation of candidates in the name of bringing the “truth” to the public. We, the people, are not so impressionable that we are buying what they are selling. At least I hope not.

I know that the election is just weeks away and I know that things are likely to get worse before they get better. What is truly scary is that these candidates, their surrogates and the media ( if there is any difference) expect that once the votes have been tallied, the people will just forget the hate that they have been shoveling at us for months. Not likely.

At the end of the day, one thing is for certain. We, the people, will be saddled with a highly unlikable President for the next four years. No matters who wins, nobody wins. By Thanksgiving it will all be over but the crying and I am afraid that we will all be doing plenty of that, whichever way it goes. One thing is for certain, fall may have come late but the turkeys certainly did come earlier than expected. Early, dry and difficult to swallow. We should know. We have been chewing it for months.
