Vick vs. Jefferson County Board of Education Court Date Set

Former principal of Jefferson Elementary School Dr. Robert C. Vick and Jefferson County Board of Education have a court date set for March 19, 2013 to hear arguments over his demotion from his position as principal at Jefferson Elementary School. The lawsuit, filed by Dr. Vick, contents that his demotion on June 18, 2009 violated his contract, JCBOE school board policy and the demotion was arbitrary and capacious.

Dr. Archie Bone, Jefferson County Director of Schools, had reappointed Dr. Vick in April 2009 for the next school year 2009-2010 school year. Then, without any prior indications or concerns with Dr. Vick’s job performance, Dr. Bone demoted Dr. Vick June 18, 2009. Dr. Bone resigned a few days later and returned to his home in Alabama.

JCBOE has turned the case over to their insurance company, Risk Management. Attorney Arthur Knight of Knoxville will represent Risk Management. Dr. Vick dismissed his lawyer in November 2012 and will be representing himself.

The case was filed in Jefferson County Chancery Court. Judge Telford Forgety recused himself and the case was assigned to Judge Tom J. Wright from Greeneville. The setting for the hearing will be in the Hawkins County Courthouse.
