Vietnam Veterans of America Morristown Chapter Donates Flags for Local Classrooms

In the theme and tradition of the upcoming Veteran’s Day Holiday, the Morristown chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America has begun a program of donating flags to local schools. The program comes in lieu of a mandate from the state that every classroom display a flag. The veterans have made it their mission to make sure that every classroom in their own county and surrounding counties has flags.

Representatives of the Morristown chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America stated that the group has donated more than 3500 flags for classrooms so far. Jefferson County has already been visited by the group, with Cocke and Hawkins counties coming up in the next few weeks. Each school has their own guidelines for displaying the flags, and each teacher is responsible for their own creative displays.

The veterans’ goal is to have all American flags in classrooms by Veterans Day on November 11th. Representatives stated that many have been receptive to their donation of the flags, and that schools are excited about the program and thankful for the opportunities offered by the group.
