Charges have been filed against a woman in connection with the Monday evening hit and run of  a child as he exited the school bus.

Heather Leanne Williams, 37, was charged this evening with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Personal Injury, Passing a School Bus Stop Sign, and Texting While Driving.

Williams admitted to investigators that she was texting while driving and maintained she was unaware she had struck the child.

MPD Detective Tracey Bowman credits detectives from the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office with assisting in the investigation.  Lt. David Stapleton and Sgt. Jimmy Mullins were  given information which they then passed on to Detective Bowman which ultimately led to the interview and arrest of Williams.

MPD Chief Roger Overholt stated  “this incident demonstrates, once again, the danger of texting and driving and, that while the child sustained non-threatening injuries in this incident, the outcome could have been far worse”.
