Jefferson City’s Hometown Christmas Set for December 10, 2016

PrintJefferson City and the Historic Mossy Creek District have announced this year’s Jefferson City Hometown Christmas will take place on December 10 on Main Street. This will be the first event to be held in the, soon to be completed, festival park.  While you can still expect the annual candy-filled Christmas parade that is held on this second Saturday of December, this year the city will include a wide array of additional holiday activities to kick off the holiday season.

Jefferson City’s Hometown Christmas will take place directly following the parade. Parade watchers are encouraged to head downtown to enjoy the free event as the parade winds up and will last until dusk.  The event will include food, entertainment, photos with Santa, carriage rides through the city, and lots of door prizes.  The event will conclude with the lighting of a 20 foot Christmas tree around 6:00 pm.   Local downtown businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate and help create a festive atmosphere for this growing event.

“We are so excited to be able to hold this event in our brand new festival park as we continue to shine light on the downtown with events like this, said committee member and past President of the Mossy Creek Foundation, Michael Evon. “Mayor Potts and the Christmas committee work hard each year to continue to grow this budding event and with the newly developed festival park, we only see things getting better and better.”

The Jefferson City Christmas parade, which will start and end in the Historic Mossy Creek District, will begin at 2:00pm and will led into the Hometown Christmas activities.   The parade is free to participants and line-up will begin downtown at 1:00 pm. Those participating should fill out an entry form, available at City Hall and other locations downtown.

The city is continuing to expand and develop this holiday event to bring visitors to the the downtown and the city as they continue to work to implement a master plan to revitalize the aging district.  For more information or to get involved please contact the city at 865.475.9071 or visit the district’s website at OldMossyCreek.com.
