Budget Committee Meets for First Time in New Year

The Jefferson County Budget Committee met on Monday, January 9, 2017, in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse. The Meeting was Called to Order by Committee Chairman Scarlett. Upon a Motion from Committee Member Seals and 2nd from Committee Member McGraw the Minutes as corrected were approved.

One citizen, Jean Ringe representing the Humane Society, appeared before the Committee to request additional funding for the organization, citing budget concerns and increased activity at the Humane Society. The Committee received and approved a calendar for the upcoming budget cycle with a motion from Committee Member Carmichael and Committee Member Douglas.

The Committee unanimously approved County Budget Amendment #8 for General Fund 101 on a motion from Seals and McGraw. In a 7-3 vote (Carmichael, Douglas and Scarlett voting No) the Committee approved a McGraw/ Seals motion to approved a request for $15,350 from Sanitation Fund and $15,350 from Landfill Fund for the purchase of a Solid Waste Director Vehicle.

Jefferson County School’s amendments were approved for the General, Federal and Food Service funds with motions from Committee Member Tucker/Seals, Seals/McGraw and McGraw/Tucker.
