Carson-Newman University Spring Commencement to be Held Friday, May 5, 2017

Carson-Newman University will hold its spring commencement ceremony on Friday May 5th, 2017. The university will confer a record number of 600 graduates this year, and the undergraduate ceremony will take place at Burke-Tarr Stadium at 9 a.m. The graduate ceremony will be held later that evening at Hold Field House, beginning at 7 p.m. Three Carson-Newman alumni will be honored during the undergraduate ceremony.

1968 Carson-Newman graduate Richard Wallace will receive the Distinguished Alumnus award for his decades of service to his community, profession, church, and alma mater. Dr. Jean Love will be given the R.R. Tuner Sprit of Carson-Newman Award for selfless service to students and colleges. Merideth Marano, a 2008 Carson-Newman graduate, will be presented with the Outstanding Young Aluma Award for her operatic success on both international and domestic stages.

Graduate students at the evening ceremony will be addressed by Tennessee Commissioner of Education Dr. Candice McQueen. She is known for her work furthering connections between students and teachers in the Nashville school system.

Carson-Newman University was founded in 1851. The university has over 2,600 students and offers 50 undergraduate majors.
