Representative Andrew Farmer Appointed To National Law, Criminal Justice, & Public Safety Committee

State Representative Andrew Farmer (R–Sevierville) has been appointed to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Law, Criminal Justice, and Public Safety Committee by the Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, Beth Harwell.

The NCSL Law, Criminal Justice, and Public Safety Committee addresses underlying principles for a balanced state-federal system and takes policy positions to preserve state sovereignty and set a high standard for preemption of state laws. The committee’s broad jurisdiction includes federalism and preemption issues, constitution and constitutional law, civil rights and liability issues and criminal justice.

“As an attorney, businessman, and an elected lawmaker, I am honored to represent the State of Tennessee and District 17 as a member of this prestigious committee,” said Chairman Farmer. “Throughout my time in the Tennessee General Assembly, I have fought to enhance Tennessee’s laws and public safety while also protecting our state sovereignty. I look forward to sharing my experiences with other committee members. Together, I know we can continue to affect policy change at both the state and federal levels.”

Farmer’s term begins immediately and is set to expire on January 1, 2019.

Andrew Farmer serves as the Chairman of the House Civil Justice Committee. He is also a member of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee, House Criminal Justice Committee and House Calendar & Rules Committee.
