E.ON Climate and Renewables North America Chooses New Market for Next Project

The Economic Development Alliance, Jefferson County (EDA) and E.ON Climate and Renewables North America (E.ON) are happy to announce that E.ON has chosen the New Market community in Jefferson County as the site for its next major U.S. solar project. The company has leased +/- 200 acres from a private land owner and has entered into a long-term lease in line with the projected life of the solar panels to be installed. The company will be investing up to $200 million in the project with a goal of providing 100 – 150 construction jobs during the initial build out and 10 – 20 permanent jobs once the solar farm is fully operational. The solar farm will generate 40 MW of solar power that will be immediately injected into the TVA and Appalachian Electric Cooperative grid. Initial groundbreaking on the project is projected for the
fall of 2017.

Scott Faulkenberry with EDA stated, “this is an incredible capital investment in the community. This solar project will enhance the renewable energy footprint in the county first established by Appalachian Electric and will help us meet the green and / or renewable energy requirements of many international corporations looking to relocate to the U.S. We are looking forward to a long-term partnership with
E.ON.”
